Monterey Bay Operations Satellite Company Information
Informations générales
Young adults join the CCC for one year to work outdoors and gain experience while making a difference. The CCC is the oldest and largest conservation corps program in the country.
Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. established the Corps in 1976, envisioning a “combination Jesuit seminary, Israeli kibbutz and Marine Corps boot camp.”
In the Corps, members of the CCC receive training and acquire skills; they also learn about careers in natural resources and emergency response fields.
There are some two dozen residential and nonresidential sites throughout the state and information sessions are held every month in most locations. By clicking on “Apply Now” on the CCC’s website (www.ccc.ca.gov), applicants will be connected with a local recruiter.
General Information
The CCC accepts people of all income and education levels from all over California.
Corpsmembers will be assigned to a crew of 10 to 15 corpsmembers and will work on dozens of different projects each year.
The pay is minimum wage, with opportunities to earn more as a specialist or crewleader. Those without high school diplomas will be enrolled in a charter school to complete the requirements while in the Corps. There are also scholarships available for use after the CCC.
In the Corps, young people will make new friends, see a lot more of California and likely look back on the best year of their lives.
Mission
The CCC has a dual mission, putting young people and the environment together to benefit both. The young men and women of the Corps work hard protecting and restoring California’s natural resources and responding to disasters.
Corpsmembers become stronger workers, citizens and individuals through their service.
Achievements
In nearly 40 years, our corpsmembers have accomplished some amazing things. That includes:
-- Planting 21 million trees
-- Building or repairing 11,000 miles of backcountry trails
-- Improving 1800+ miles of salmon and steelhead habitat
-- Building hundreds of new parks and improving existing ones
-- Making thousands of schools, parks and other public buildings energy efficient
When natural disasters occur, CCC crews can be dispatched to a fire, flood or earthquake within hours. Since 1976, corpsmembers have logged 9.6 million hours of emergency response work.
